Every year, the ICES conventions have a cake display area where you can put your creations on show for the attendees. There's also a raffle and prizes and a professional photographer who snaps some nice photos of the cakes. I did this at the show in New Orleans a few years back and won an airbrush machine! Not too shabby, so this year I brought three cakes to the "Cake Shack."
The first one is a mini replica of our Ascot (not called the My Fair Lady cake on TV because we can't afford to pay for the rights to call it that even though that is exactly what we called it off camera the whole time) cake from Season 2 of Amazing Wedding Cakes. I always really liked this cake, but you know, with the pressures of time and filming and cameras in your face etc., I also really wanted to redo it for my own collection. Enter the Mini Ascot!!!
It's smaller and more efficient!! Cute, huh? The Mini Ascot's buddy on the right there is one of my other entries, the uh... Mini Bird!! Okay, I hadn't really thought of a name for that one yet, but again, isn't it just adorable?! It's very me if I say so myself... and I do.
The third cake probably would've been even more ambitious if we didn't have to drive it all the way to San Diego, but it is based on our dear friend C.J. Metzger's artwork and is known as "Lydia's Galactic Journey."
We have the print on our wall and I've been staring at it for the last year thinking, "I should make that into a cake." What do you think? I like her! I hope C.J. does too! As you can see, unlike the other two I brought, it is not mini. Mic also thinks there could be some problems with the gravitational proximity of those planets, but it's cake so I think we'll be fine;)
Hope my cake friends down here have a chance to check them out them out this weekend and thanks to ICES for giving everyone the opportunity to show off their work! There's is some cool stuff here, including quite the contingent from Venezuela! Sheesh, I thought driving a cake from L.A. was bad!!
Banquet tonight, table 111, so look out for me and Mic and our new friend Ruth Drennan from season one of Amazing Wedding Cakes!! We hung out last night and plan on tearing it up at the banquet so look out ICES, cake chicks on the loose!
