TGIF, so bring on the Silly!!!
So listen, Will and Kate's wedding was amazing, wasn't it? We stayed up all night and watched the whole thing and had a great time Royal watching and then, well.... then the cake picture came out. Frankly, we were underwhelmed. For the wedding of the century, it just wasn't as grand and epic as we were hoping. Apparently, Prince Albert of Monaco and his bride Charlene agreed with us! Bring in the cake crane!!
Holy smokes! That cake is so big, it has a landing platform off the side for another cake!! That cake is so big, I keep waiting for Andre the Giant to pop out of it! That cake is so big, it might even make Charlene forget Albert is bald! Now, obviously, looking at that cake heli-pad there I suspect some shenanigans as far as how much of that is actually cake, but nonetheless, bravo Monaco!!!
Last week in Silly Cake News, we showed some protesters in Uganda getting their cake taken away by party pooping soldiers. Well, turns out protesting with cake is becoming all the rage! In Sheffield England, a group opposing proposed changes to the country's National Healthcare System (NHS) celebrated the program's 63rd birthday with picket signs and cake! One more cake heavy protest and I think we'll have to start writing folk songs!
World records and the food industry go together like me and a taco stand! Name a food or a dish and chances are there's someone who wants to make it bigger or eat more of it than anyone else. Brooklyn based "Cake Man Raven" has his sights on setting the bar for the world's largest sculpted cake. With a planned 15,000 servings and covering 600 square feet, this cake is being offered up for the 100th Anniversary of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity taking place in Indiana. All the stats on this red velvet flavored monster can be found in the article, but needless to say, his supply bill might be longer than the cake! Can't wait to see the photos.
Speaking of World Records, the bakery behind the giant, Superdome encircling (twice) king's cake from an earlier SCN will be telling the tale of their own world record on a local, New Orleans based reality TV show!! Haydel's Bakery in NOLA will be featured on 8 episodes of the poorly title "Piece of Cake" on WVUE Saturday nights. The premiere episode is all about that enormous king's cake and the producers are hoping the show will be a gateway for getting on national TV. So, with local cable cake shows now, can we call in the "jumped the shark" reference? Haydel's is a great bakery though, and we wish them all the best.
That's it for this week cakers! Have a wonderful weekend and hey, next week is Cake Camp in Las Vegas!! See you there!!
What a big cake....look like something that the cake boss would make.
