So, who watched Duff's new show this week? Me neither. But I did troll the internet for some SIlly Cake News!!!
First up, nothing gets sillier than flavored vodka. Seriously, have you looked at the vodka section at a BevMo lately? No one needs bubblegum flavored booze and while bacon is awesome, keep it out of my cocktails please. But now, you can have your cake and drink it too! (Sorry, could not resist that pun!) Pearl vodka is releasing a wedding cake flavored variety this September and your drunk uncle you didn't want to invite to your wedding anyway could not be happier! Pearl claims the $12.99 a bottle vodka is "carefully infused with all the enchanting and lush decadence of today's most mouthwatering wedding cakes." First of all, gross. Secondly, super gross. Call me old fashion, but I prefer my vodka out of a skull.
Sadly I could not find an actual picture of President Obama's 50th birthday cake, but I did find evidence that with a couple of clicks on Go Daddy, you can literally start any weird fringe website that you desire! Enter Yes We Cake!!! That's right, add one part campaign slogan, two parts culinary obsession and a little bit of public office, shake vigorously and you get a website dedicated to nothing but Barack Obama themed pastry. Highlights include a stack of donuts with a little Barack on top and an edible image of the first family. There is also a random picture of a Gene Simmons Kiss cake? Peruse, enjoy, feel the sugary patriotism flow through your stomach! And then get creeped out by the Madame Tussauds wax Obama birthday bash. Cakes by Retro Bakery in Las Vegas.
And finally today, the robot invasion of our industry continues. Those mechanical, soon to be fully sentient jerk-bots made us cookies last week but this week they have the audacity to slice into a cake!! Two crazy Belgiums took a whole lot of LEGOs and a LEGO Mindstorm processor and created a robot who can slice perfectly even slices of cake with an old tin can lid. Perfect slices!! You can't have perfect slices, that just destroys everything good and wholesome about cake!! I always need a bigger piece than my sister, ALWAYS!!! Damn you robots.... Click the link for a video of the bot in action.
Alright, short and sweet this week, and no, I did not intend that pun. Enjoy your weekend folks!!
I'd have Obama over for cake any day. The real one, not the wax one.
