In the second season of Amazing Wedding Cakes, we adhered to the producer's mandate that "you must wear the same thing every day!!" See, it is a lot easier to edit around a few thousand hours of footage when you can just pretend that any shot is from the same day (they try and make the show as "timeless" and generic as possible so it can air at anytime) because we are all wearing the same shirt and hat and pants etc. I actually was wearing some Ben Sherman polos that season (brown and green) and they now hang in the closet like a hidden trophy to surviving that time;)
For our third season, I quietly said "fudge it" (without the fudge) to their clothing demands!!! (They also operated under a very old concept of avoiding stripes and patterns which is not nearly the problem it was before high def digital cameras) I was gonna dress the way I dress in everyday life; t-shirts and button ups. Layers people, when you eat this much cake it is all about layers! While this decision might have gotten me edited out of the show significantly this year, I still managed to sneak some of my favorite shirts into national TV. As such, I've had some inquiries into a few of them and thought I'd share them here with you.
The first is the "Irish Pirate" shirt spotted during our pirate ship cake. See what I did there? It is from an awesome company called Pirate Mod which features a huge selection of both traditional pirate designs as well as some new fangled originals as well.
For a brief moment, you may have seen something strange in your neighborhood, so who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!! Courtesy of Glennz Tees and Thinkgeek, this is "Called for Help."
Everything else (that made it on TV) came from the greatest t-shirt site on the internet, Threadless! They have new shirts every week with lots of limited editions and super $10 sales, it is a regular devourer of our bank account. First up is a shirt that actually appeared on Elena from Ace of Cakes but I'm pretty sure we filmed me wearing it first. They just don't have to wait a year for their episodes to air! We can duke it out later Elena. Till then, it is the "Three Keyboard Cat Moon" and it's a mash-up of memes too irresistable not to wear on a shirt!
And in case you are unaware of keyboard cat, make with the clickey!!
One that didn't come across on TV is this glow in the dark gem called the "LightSaver." It really glows in the dark! Going green AND flashing my Star Wars nerditude? I'll buy two!!
One of my favs is this shirt that features a typewriter that produces sheet music!
As a musician, this invention sure would come in handy! The best part about this shirt though is it also became a cake!! Threadless has a competition every year to turn their shirt designs into cakes and "The Composition" was one of them! Check out the post here with lots of neat pictures of what turned out to be an awesome cake!
There were a few other shirts that might of had a second or two of screen time (inlcuding my "Team Spice" shirt from the now defunct Spice Girls tour store) but hopefully this will help with your holiday gift giving and/or your "Mic from Merci Beaucoup" Halloween costume. It will be a horrible Halloween costume that you have to spend like five minutes trying to explain to every person you meet, but I've got a high five for anyone who tries to pull it off next year!
