Worst in Show!!!

No, the title of this post is not a reference to any recent dubious awards coming our way!  Instead, Husband Mic and I went to the premiere of a documentary he worked on last summer at the San Francisco Indie Fest.  It was called Worst In Show and it is about the world famous Ugliest Dog competition held in Petaluma, CA, the town just north of where Mic grew up and one of our favorite places to hang out.

The movie was so good and I had a great time!  We had some dinner, some drinks, some chocolate dipped strawberries, and the show.  I call that a date night!  And the dogs in the film were so cute.  A few of them were there too and I got to meet them and pet them and they are so sweet it is hard to consider them ugly.  If you see the movie somewhere, you should check it out and Mic wrote up a review on his blog too if you're interested.

Happy Birthday Marc!!

Good morning cake lovers and lovers of cake!  It is a bright shiny morning for the Merci Beaucoup family as we prep for the holidays and a whole lot of Thanksgiving turkey.  Things are smelling good around here, but we have to stop from all our prep to say a big giant Happy Birthday to the one and only Marc Gravelle! 

Marc is a great friend and makes us laugh constantly, so both Reva and myself wish him the happiest of happy days and many many more in the future so he can continue making awesome cakes and corny jokes!  His age will be withheld for legal reasons;)  Have a great one buddy!!

Merci @ San Diego Comic Con!!!

Hello Happy Sugar Citizens!!  You might remember our comic book cake from season 2 of Amazing Wedding Cakes?  Well, we are nerds, especially Mic, and so I'm off with him to the world famous San Diego Comic Con this week!!  We go almost every year, but we took last year off, so I'm really looking forward to heading down there. 

And, if you're at Comic Con, and you spot me on the floor, in a panel, or walking the Gaslamp, Mic has made up a little special "I Met Reva" package just for you!!

There's only a couple dozen in my bag, so spot me early to get this keepsake featuring some pencil art from our dear friend CJ Metzger!!  Hint: we like to eat at Dublin Square, like a lot, like every morning fro breakfast;)  I'll also have some regular MB buttons and maybe a few other surprise, so shout if you see us!

Silly Cake News: Couple Recycles Cans to Pay for Wedding

Things are status quo around Merci Beaucoup these days.  I'm getting ready to head out to Georgia to visit my family for 4th of July, so keep your eyes peeled peaches!!  I'll have buttons on me!!  So excited, even though I have a red eye flight, and Mic has to stay home, and I'll miss my kitties, and it will be oppressively hot and humid.... wait, why am I excited again?  LOL!  Can't wait to see my mom.

Last weekend we did a pretty awesome cake for a friend of Mic's.  I think he's gonna post some cool stuff from that next week.  But before I head to the airport, I spotted this story online and thought it was kind of cool.

Couple Recylces 400,000 Cans to Pay for Wedding

Well, it is cool, until you read it and see the mother of the bride owns a catering company, so naturally, I wanted to read about the cake but nothing exciting as her mom did the cake.  Also, some recycling company donated a bunch of cans and the harpist is playing for free and iPods and all that.  So, it seems cool and green and all that, but really it's not like they pulled off some amazing wedding with aluminum!  Still neat though I guess.

Disneyland Photo Safari!!

Hey baking land faithful, husband MIc here and just for fun, I thought I'd put up some pics we took at Disneyland on Monday the 15th.  It was a great day, starting to get more crowded for the Spring Break season, but we still got on a bunch of rides and walked around and had a lot of fun.  The first thing we did was sprint over to the return of Captain EO!

It was awesome, and I had a hard time getting Reva to sit still in her seat!  She knew all the dance moves!  We bought a button and I wrote up a little review over on my movie site.  I also was in the mood to shoot some pictures of the D-Land skyline:

There is always something new and fun to photograph at Disneyland, but who doesn't love the classic castle shot?  As an Irishman, I was super psyched to see these ears, but we opted to take a photo with them rather than purchase.  You know, we still want to get a new delivery van, we gotta pinch some pennies;)

 That's it for that trip, but let me just add, I got one of the freshest and most delicious caramel apples I've ever picked up at Disneyland!  I'm still thinking about it.  Lots of stuff up coming here on Happy Sugar Baking Land in April, so stay tuned as Reva gets ready to film a special episode of Amazing Wedding Cakes, I explore the recipes of my muffin calendar, and our merchandise line has an official launch!!  Take care and enjoy these beautiful Spring days!!
